Art. 2291 Money judgment; fieri facias

If a court has ordered someone to pay money and they haven't paid, the person who won the case can ask the court for a special order called a writ of fieri facias. This order allows a sheriff or other officer to seize the debtor's property and sell it to cover the amount owed.

This is one of the main tools used to collect on a money judgment. Instead of just having a piece of paper saying you're owed money, this rule gives you a way to actually get paid by going after the debtor's belongings, like personal property or real estate.

The process works by directing law enforcement to take specific property and sell it, usually at a public sale. The money from that sale then goes toward paying off what the debtor owes under the judgment.
