Art. 2294 Time for seizure; return

If a court gives someone a writ of fieri facias (a court order that lets the sheriff seize property to pay off a debt), that order only works for one year from the date it was issued. The sheriff has to act within that one-year window to actually seize the property.

If the year passes and the sheriff hasn't seized anything, the sheriff must report back to the court that nothing happened. But if the sheriff did seize property before the year ran out, they don't have to stop just because the deadline passed. Instead, they can go ahead and sell the property, then report the results to the court afterward.
