Art. 2787 Objections to registration of support order for modification

If you owe support payments and another state's court order gets registered in Louisiana, you have the right to challenge that registration. But you need to act fast. You only have 20 days to file your objection with the court.

The 20-day clock starts differently depending on how you were notified. If the court mailed you notice, your 20 days starts from the mailing date. If you were formally served with papers instead, your 20 days starts from the date you were served.

This deadline applies no matter what your objection is about. Whether you think the order is wrong, unfair, or shouldn't apply to you, you still have to raise it within this 20-day window. If you miss this deadline, you likely lose your chance to object, and the support order will move forward as registered.
