Art. 2792 Objections to registration of support order for enforcement

If you owe support payments and someone registers an out-of-state support order against you in a Louisiana court, you have a limited window to fight it. You get 20 days to file an objection, and the clock starts either from the date the notice was mailed to you or the date you were formally served, depending on how you were notified.

This deadline applies no matter what your objection is about. Whether you think the amount is wrong, the order isn't valid, or you have some other legal issue with it, you must raise that objection within this 20 day period. The objection has to be filed with the same court that's handling the registration.

Missing this deadline can seriously hurt your ability to challenge the order later. If you receive notice that a support order has been registered against you, you need to act fast and either file your objection yourself or talk to a lawyer right away to protect your rights.
