Art. 330 Collection of fines from, and imprisonment of, persons found guilty of contempt of court

If a judge holds someone in contempt of court and orders them to pay a fine, the sheriff is the one who collects that money. The sheriff then hands the money over to whatever official is supposed to receive it by law.

If the judge instead orders jail time for the contempt, the sheriff is also responsible for taking that person into custody and placing them in the parish jail. In short, this rule spells out that the sheriff carries out the punishment, whether it's collecting a fine or locking someone up.
