Art. 3545 Nonresident attachment; venue

If you want to attach (seize) someone's property because they don't live in the state, you can file your lawsuit in whatever parish that property is located. This is the only ground needed to pick that location for your case.

This rule makes it easier for someone suing a nonresident to choose where to file. Instead of having to figure out some other connection to a specific parish, you can simply file where the property sits. This matters because normally, venue rules can be complicated, and figuring out the "right" parish to sue in can be a challenge when the other person doesn't live in Louisiana.

In short, if your only reason for seeking an attachment is that the defendant lives out of state, the location of their property is what determines where you can bring the case.
