Art. 3574 Plaintiff's security

If you want a court to seize property before a case is decided (called sequestration), you usually have to put up money first. This money acts like a safety net for the other person in the case. It protects them in case it turns out the property never should have been taken.

The court decides how much money you need to put up. The amount should be enough to cover any harm the other person might suffer if the seizure turns out to be wrong or unfair.

There are some situations where the law says you don't have to provide this security at all. But unless one of those exceptions applies, you need to pay this amount before the court will let you seize the property.
