Art. 3825 Answer; production of person in custody

If you get served with this writ, you have to file an answer telling the court whether you have custody of the person named in it. This applies to you even if the writ wasn't technically addressed to you personally.

If it turns out you do have that person in your custody, you have to bring them to court. You also have to explain in your written answer exactly why you're holding them, meaning what legal authority or reason you have for keeping them detained.

This rule makes sure someone can't dodge the writ just by claiming it wasn't meant for them, and it forces whoever has control over the detained person to explain themselves to the court.
