Art. 3943 Appeal from judgment awarding, modifying, or denying custody, visitation, or support

If a judge makes a decision about child custody, visitation, or support, and you want to appeal that decision, you have to file your appeal within the time limit set by Article 3942. This is a shorter deadline than many other types of appeals, so you need to act quickly if you disagree with the ruling.

Even if you do file an appeal, the original custody, visitation, or support order still applies while the appeal is going on. This means you can't pause or stop the judgment from being followed just because you're appealing it. The kids still go by the custody and visitation schedule, and support payments still need to be made, even while your case is being reviewed by a higher court.
