Art. 5 Same; effect of reduction of claim

If you have a single claim that's worth more than what a certain court is allowed to handle, you can choose to lower the amount you're asking for so the case fits within that court's limits. This lets you file in that court instead of a higher one.

But there's a trade-off. Once you do this and the court rules on your case, you give up the extra money you didn't ask for. You can't go back later and try to collect the difference in another lawsuit. By asking for a smaller amount, you're permanently walking away from the rest of the claim, even though it was legally yours to begin with.

In short, cutting your claim down to fit a court's limits is a final decision. Once the judge rules, that's the end of the matter for the full amount, not just the reduced amount you asked for.
