Art. 74.3 Marriage of persons related by adoption

If you were adopted and want to marry someone you're related to through adoption, the law says you need special permission from a court first. This comes up because Civil Code Article 90 normally does not allow marriage between people related through adoption, but there is a legal process to ask for an exception.

To get this permission, you have to file a request with the district court. You can choose to file in the parish where you live or in the parish where the other person lives. Either location works, so you have some flexibility in picking where to start the process.

This rule only tells you where to file your request. It does not explain what the judge will look at when deciding whether to approve the marriage. For that part, you would need to look at Civil Code Article 90 or talk to a lawyer about what the court considers before granting this kind of permission.
