Art. 74.5 Adult adoption

If you want to adopt an adult (rather than a child), you need to file the request in court. This rule says you can file that case in either the parish where you live or the parish where the person being adopted lives. This gives you a choice about where to handle the paperwork, based on whatever location is more convenient for the people involved.

This applies specifically to adoptions covered under Civil Code Article 212, which deals with adult adoptions. The main point is flexibility: you're not stuck filing in just one specific parish. As long as it's the home parish of either person involved in the adoption, the court there can handle the case.
