Art. 962 Form of written motion

If you want to file a written motion in court, it has to follow the same basic formatting and signing rules that apply to other court papers. This means your motion needs to be signed properly, and that signature confirms you are filing it in good faith and not just to cause delay or run up costs for the other side.

Your motion also needs to clearly explain two things: why you are asking the court to act (your reasons) and exactly what you want the court to do (the relief you're asking for). You can't just file something vague. You need to spell out your argument and your specific request.

If your motion is long, it needs to follow additional formatting rules that apply to lengthy court papers, such as breaking things into numbered paragraphs so the judge and the other side can follow your points easily. And if other formatting rules apply to your situation, like how to reference exhibits or attach documents, you need to follow those too. Basically, this rule makes sure motions are written in a clear, organized way so everyone involved can understand what is being asked and why.
