Art. 106 Arrest of criminal suspect

If a coroner is investigating a case and finds evidence that someone committed a crime, the coroner has the power to arrest that person, even if no police officer is present. This can happen when the coroner's investigation turns up clear signs that a specific person broke the law.

Once the coroner makes the arrest, they cannot keep the person in their own custody. The coroner must hand the person over to a peace officer, such as a police officer or sheriff's deputy, right away. From that point on, the normal criminal justice process takes over, and the police handle the case like any other arrest.
