Art. 230 Rights of person arrested

When someone gets arrested, they have the right to talk to a lawyer right away. This right starts the moment the arrest happens, not later at the police station or in court.

The arrested person can also use a phone or send someone to deliver a message. This lets them contact friends or family, or reach out to a lawyer for help. Police cannot cut off this right or make the person wait an unreasonable amount of time before letting them make contact.

This rule exists so people are not left alone and cut off from help just because they got arrested. It gives them a real chance to get legal advice and let others know what is happening, right from the start.
