Art. 27 Application for peace bond; examination

If you believe someone is about to cause trouble or threaten violence against you, you can ask the court to make that person post a peace bond. To start this process, you need to file a sworn statement (called an affidavit) that spells out exactly what the person has done or is threatening to do. You can't just say someone is "acting scary" or "might cause problems." You have to give specific details about the threat or the breach of peace you're worried about.

Once you file this affidavit, the judge or magistrate handling your case can question you further under oath. They can also question any witnesses you bring to support your claim. This gives the court a chance to check the facts before deciding whether to require the peace bond, making sure the request is based on real concerns and not just vague suspicions or personal conflicts.
