Art. 277 Appointment of agents to receive prisoner

When the governor asks another state to hand over a wanted person, he does not go pick that person up himself. Instead, he picks someone to act as his agent for the job.

The governor gives this agent an official paper called a warrant. This warrant carries the state's seal, which shows it is a real, legal order. It tells the agent to go get the person from the other state and bring them back.

Once the agent has the person, the warrant also tells them what to do next. They must hand the person over to the right authorities in Louisiana, such as the sheriff or the court that needs them. This makes sure there is a clear paper trail showing who has legal custody of the person at each step of the process.
