Art. 436 The foreman; rules of procedure

Every grand jury has a foreman who acts as the leader during meetings and hearings. This person runs the proceedings and can decide how things should be done, like setting rules for how the group operates. The foreman can also hand off certain tasks to other members of the grand jury instead of doing everything alone.

If a member of the grand jury disagrees with a rule the foreman has set, they don't have to just go along with it. They can bring the disagreement to a judge, who will step in and decide whether the rule is fair or appropriate. This gives grand jurors a way to push back if they think the foreman is running things unfairly.
