Art. 441 Administration of oath to other persons

Anyone who works with a grand jury, like a court reporter who records the testimony or an interpreter who translates for witnesses, must first take an oath before they can start their job. The judge is the one who gives them this oath.

The oath requires these workers to promise two things. First, they must do their job honestly and correctly. Second, they must keep everything they hear or see during the grand jury proceedings secret and not share it with anyone outside the process.

This rule matters because grand jury proceedings are private by law. The people helping run these proceedings, even though they are not jurors or attorneys, still have access to sensitive information. Making them swear an oath ensures they understand they have a legal duty to protect that secrecy, just like everyone else involved in the grand jury process.
