Art. 471 Ownership

When you're charged with a crime involving property, the indictment doesn't have to say who owns that property. Prosecutors can leave this detail out in most cases.

There's an exception, though. If knowing who owns the property is actually necessary to prove the crime happened, then the indictment has to include that information. For example, if the charge is theft, the ownership matters because the crime involves taking something that belongs to someone else. In that kind of case, leaving out the owner's name could make the charge incomplete or unclear.

So the basic idea is this: ownership details only need to show up in the paperwork when they're actually part of what makes the act a crime. If ownership isn't a key piece of the offense, prosecutors can skip mentioning it.
