Art. 534 Special grounds for motion to quash information

If you're charged with a crime based on an information (a formal document prosecutors use to charge someone, instead of a grand jury indictment), you can ask the court to throw out that charge for specific reasons.

One reason is that the district attorney didn't sign the information, or it wasn't filed the right way. Prosecutors have to follow certain steps to properly bring charges, and if they skip those steps, the charge can be challenged.

The other reason is that the crime you're accused of isn't the type that can be charged this way at all. Some serious crimes require prosecutors to go through a grand jury and get an indictment instead of just filing an information. If prosecutors used the wrong method for the type of crime involved, you can ask the court to dismiss the charge on that basis.
