Art. 614 Venue where offense committed within one hundred feet of parish boundary

If a crime happens right on the line between two parishes, or within 100 feet of that line, the case can be tried in either parish. It doesn't matter which side of the border the crime technically happened on.

This rule exists because it can be hard to tell exactly where a crime took place when it happens so close to a parish line. Instead of arguing over which side of the boundary the crime occurred on, prosecutors have the choice to bring the case in whichever parish makes sense. This saves time and prevents cases from getting thrown out just because of a technical question about location.
