Art. 678 Recusal of ad hoc judge

When a special judge (called an "ad hoc judge") is brought in to handle a case, either to decide if the regular judge should step aside or to actually try the case, that special judge can also be removed from the case if there's a good reason. The same rules that apply to removing a regular judge also apply to this special judge.

This means nobody gets special treatment just because they were appointed to fill in. If the ad hoc judge has a conflict of interest, bias, or another valid reason they shouldn't be involved, someone can ask for them to be recused. The process for making that request works the same way as it would for any other judge in the case.
