Art. 713 Peremptory grounds

If a lawyer asks for a continuance (a delay in the case) based on certain specific legal reasons spelled out elsewhere in the law, the judge has to grant it. There's no wiggle room here. These specific reasons are called "peremptory grounds," which just means they're automatic triggers for a delay.

This is different from other requests for a continuance, where a judge gets to weigh the situation and decide whether to grant it or not. With peremptory grounds, the decision is already made by law. If the reason given matches one of these specific legal grounds, the judge must approve the delay, whether they think it's a good idea or not.

In practice, this protects people in court from being rushed into a trial when certain important circumstances exist. The specific list of what counts as a peremptory ground is found in other parts of the law, not in this rule itself. This rule just confirms that when those conditions are met, the court has no choice but to allow more time.
