Art. 732 Subpoena duces tecum

If you get a subpoena that asks you to bring documents, papers, or other items to court, the request has to clearly describe what they want. This means the subpoena needs to explain what items are being asked for well enough that you know exactly what to bring.

You do have some protection here. If the request is too broad, too demanding, or just plain unfair to comply with, the court can step in and cancel it or change what it's asking for. So if someone tries to use a subpoena to make you dig through years of records or hand over things that don't make sense for the case, you or your lawyer can push back and ask the court to limit or throw out that request.

This rule basically balances two things: making sure people can get the evidence they need for a trial, while also making sure nobody gets buried under an unreasonable demand for paperwork or items.
