Art. 8 Assistants and deputies included

When this code refers to an official like a clerk of court, coroner, district attorney, or sheriff, that also means their assistants and deputies. So if a rule says the "district attorney" must do something, an assistant district attorney can do it too. The same goes for deputy sheriffs, deputy clerks, and other assistants who work under these officials.

This matters because it means you don't have to deal with the top official in person for actions to be valid. If a deputy sheriff or assistant clerk handles something on behalf of their office, it counts the same as if the sheriff or clerk did it themselves. The only exception is if the specific situation makes clear that only the actual official, not an assistant, can act.
