Art. 818 Separate verdict for each defendant

When multiple people are being tried together in the same case, the jury (or judge) has to give a clear, separate verdict for each person on trial. The verdict can't lump everyone together with one general finding.

This means if three people are on trial at once, the verdict must state each person's name and say whether that specific person is guilty or not guilty. One defendant could be found guilty while another is found not guilty, even though they were tried in the same case. Each person gets their own individual result, based on the evidence and arguments that applied to them.

This protects each defendant's right to be judged on their own actions and the evidence against them personally, rather than being grouped in with co-defendants and treated as one unit.
