Art. 836 Presence of corporation or association

If a company, partnership, or similar organization is charged with a crime, it doesn't need to physically show up in court the way a person would. Instead, the organization meets its obligation to be present simply by having its lawyer there on its behalf.

This makes sense because a business can't actually walk into a courtroom. Since it's a legal entity rather than a person, the law treats having its attorney present as the same thing as the organization itself being present for court proceedings.
