Rule 24.8 Continuances

If you need to postpone a family law court date, the specific rules for asking for that delay depend on which court you're in. Each district court sets its own local rules for continuances in family law cases, and those rules are listed in Appendix 24.8A.

To help people file the right paperwork, the court also provides sample forms. If both sides agree to postpone the hearing, there's a form for that in Appendix 24.8B. If the other side does not agree and you need to ask the court to decide, there's a different form in Appendix 24.8C.

Before you ask for a continuance in a family law case, check the local rules for your specific court first. They will tell you what steps you need to follow and what the judge expects to see before granting a delay.
