Rule 50.1 Time Limitations

If you want to appeal a decision in certain types of juvenile or family court cases, you have to follow specific deadlines set out in the Children's Code, not the general appeal deadlines used in other court cases. This rule points to where those deadlines can be found, depending on the type of case.

For cases involving juvenile delinquency, children in need of care, or families in need of services, the appeal deadlines come from Chapter 9 of Title III of the Children's Code. For cases involving ending someone's parental rights, giving up a child for adoption, or completing an adoption, the deadlines come from Titles X, XI, and XII of the Children's Code. For cases about child support, the deadlines come from Title XIII of the Children's Code.

This matters because missing an appeal deadline can mean losing your right to challenge a court's decision.
