Art. 1003.1 Electronic duplicates

If you have a copy of a record, document, or piece of data that's in electronic form, courts can't reject it just because it's electronic or because it was reproduced from something stored digitally. In other words, being an electronic copy doesn't automatically make evidence less trustworthy or usable in court.

This matters because so much information today is stored on computers, phones, and other digital systems. Before rules like this existed, someone might have argued that a printout or digital file wasn't "the real thing" and shouldn't be allowed as evidence. This rule closes that door. As long as the electronic copy meets the normal standards for being a duplicate (like accurately reflecting the original), it can be treated the same as a paper copy or the original item itself.

For anyone involved in a legal case, this means you can rely on emails, digital photos, scanned documents, text messages, or other electronically stored information without worrying that a judge will toss it out simply because it's not a physical, original document.
