XXIII § 28 Practice Limitation During Suspension or Disqualification.

If a judge gets suspended or disqualified by the Louisiana Supreme Court, and that judge is also barred by the state constitution or a statute from practicing law, they cannot work as a lawyer during that suspension or disqualification period. In other words, the judge can't get around the punishment by simply switching over to practicing law while they're barred from serving as a judge.

This rule closes a loophole. Without it, a judge facing discipline might try to keep earning income or staying active in legal work by taking on cases as an attorney instead. The rule makes clear that the suspension or disqualification applies fully, blocking any legal work during that time, not just judicial duties.
