Rules of the Louisiana Supreme Court – 2026

The Rules of the Supreme Court of Louisiana governing practice before the Court and the administration of the state courts. Coverage runs from general filing and confidentiality requirements, fees, preparation of records, briefs, motions, assignment for oral argument and rehearings, through writ applications under Rule X, certified questions from the courts of appeal and from federal courts, substitution of parties, exhibits and the roll of attorneys. Administrative rules cover the Judicial Council and the Judiciary Commission, jury service and the general venire, capital sentence review, legislative continuances, financial disclosure by judges and by candidates for judicial office, recusal, electronic filing, and the general administrative rules for all Louisiana courts in Part G. Rules are cited as La. Sup. Ct. R. X, and a rule's sections are cited as Rule X, Section 5.
