Maine Court Rules (2026)
We publish 16 sets of Maine court rules, totaling 765 rules. Maine runs one criminal set for a unified docket — the Rules of Unified Criminal Procedure have applied statewide since 2015 — and its family matters sit inside the civil rules at Chapter XIII rather than in a set of their own. Appeals go to the Law Court, the Supreme Judicial Court sitting as the state's only appellate court. Coverage runs from civil, criminal and probate procedure through evidence, appellate procedure, small claims and the electronic court systems rules, and includes the Rules of Professional Conduct, the Code of Judicial Conduct, the Bar Rules and bar admission. Where the court publishes its Advisory Committee Notes alongside a rule, they are included as notes. Each rule includes the full text, a plain-English summary, committee notes, amendment history, and cross-references to related rules.

Maine Rules of Civil Procedure
Maine's civil rules for the Superior and District Courts. Rule 56 is summary judgment, and Chapter XIII carries the Family Division rules that replaced the former Rule 80 divorce procedure. The Business and Consumer Docket, a statewide specialized docket, runs on these rules with its own presumptive discovery limits.
