Rule 3.954 Trial of Designated Cases

When a young person's case is treated as an adult criminal case in Michigan, the trial follows the same rules as adult criminal trials. However, there is one key difference: before a juvenile can give up their right to a jury trial, they must first have a chance to talk with a lawyer.

If the juvenile wants to enter a plea instead of going to trial, that process also follows the same rules used in adult criminal cases.
