Rule 4.001 Applicability

The rules in Chapter 4 cover certain types of cases that are handled in Michigan's district and municipal courts. These are lower-level courts that deal with things like small claims, landlord-tenant disputes, and minor civil matters.

If a specific rule in Chapter 4 does not cover a situation that comes up in your case, the general Michigan Court Rules will apply instead. So Chapter 4 works together with the broader set of Michigan Court Rules rather than replacing them entirely.
