Rule 6.501 Scope of Subchapter

After a criminal case ends with a conviction and sentencing in a Michigan circuit court, there are limited ways to challenge that outcome. Once the normal appeals process is finished or no longer available, this set of rules (subchapter 6.500) becomes the only path to ask a court to review what happened.

Think of it as a last-resort review process. If you missed your chance to appeal, or if your appeals have already been decided, these rules explain how you might still be able to ask a court to look at your case again.
