Rule 106 Remainder of or Related Writings or Recorded Statements

When one side in a case shares a document or recording, the other side has the right to bring in related parts of that same document or other related documents right away. They do not have to wait until later in the case to show those additional parts.

This rule exists to keep things fair. If someone only shows part of a document, that partial view could give a misleading picture. The other side can make sure the full context is shown to the judge or jury at the same moment, not piecemeal.
