Rule 411 Liability Insurance

If someone has liability insurance (or doesn't have it), that fact cannot be used in court to argue they were careless or did something wrong. Just because a person had insurance doesn't mean they were a bad driver, for example. And just because someone had no insurance doesn't mean they were careful.

However, a judge can allow insurance information to come up in court for other reasons. For example, if there is a question about who owns or controls something, or if one side wants to show that a witness is biased because of their connection to an insurance company, the judge may let that information in.
