Rule 604 Interpreter

If you need an interpreter in court, that person must be able to do the job well. They need to actually know both languages and be skilled enough to translate accurately in a legal setting.

Before the interpreter starts, they must take an oath or make a formal promise to translate honestly and correctly. This is the same kind of promise witnesses make when they swear to tell the truth. The oath holds the interpreter responsible for giving an accurate translation throughout the case.
