Rule 607 Who May Impeach a Witness

When someone testifies in court, any side in the case can question whether that person is telling the truth. This includes the lawyer who originally called that witness to testify.

In the past, there was an old rule that said you had to "vouch" for your own witnesses, meaning you could not attack the credibility of someone you brought to the stand. Michigan courts no longer follow that approach. If your own witness says something that hurts your case or seems dishonest, you have the right to challenge them.
