Rule 610 Religious Beliefs or Opinions

When someone testifies in court, their religion cannot be used to make them look more or less trustworthy. It does not matter if a witness is Christian, Muslim, Jewish, atheist, or anything else. Those beliefs cannot be brought up to suggest the person is lying or telling the truth.

This means lawyers cannot ask witnesses about their faith to influence how the jury sees them. A person's religion is simply off-limits when it comes to judging whether their testimony should be believed.
