Rule 707 Use of Learned Treatises for Impeachment

To the extent called to an expert witness’s attention on cross-examination, a statement is admissible for impeachment purposes only if: • the statement is contained in a published treatise, periodical, or pamphlet;
• the publication is on a subject of history, medicine, or other science or art; and • the publication is established as a reliable authority by the testimony or admission of the witness, by other expert testimony, or by judicial notice. If admitted, the statement may be read into evidence but must not be received as an exhibit.
