Rule 802 The Rule Against Hearsay

Hearsay is generally not allowed in court. If someone wants to use an out-of-court statement as evidence, there needs to be a specific rule that permits it.

Other rules do create exceptions that allow certain hearsay statements into court. If no exception applies, the statement stays out.
