Rule 4.01 Findings by the Court

If you want the judge to explain the specific facts behind their decision, you need to ask for this in writing. This written request has to be filed before the judge starts giving their ruling out loud in court, and before the judge issues any written decision.

In other words, timing matters a lot here. You cannot wait until after the judge has already ruled to ask for detailed findings of fact. If you think you will want this kind of explanation, you need to file your request ahead of time, before the judge announces or writes their decision.

This matters because a detailed explanation of the judge's reasoning can be helpful if you plan to appeal or if you need to understand exactly why the judge decided the way they did. Missing this deadline means you may not get that detailed explanation, even if the judge's ruling affects you significantly.
