Rule 5.04 Presentation of Court File

When a lawyer submits a judgment or court order for the judge to sign, they need to list out the specific documents connected to it. Each document in the court file has a number, called an MEC number, and the lawyer must identify which numbered documents the judgment or order affects.

This helps keep the court file organized and clear. Anyone looking at the case later can quickly see which documents were changed, decided, or referenced by that particular judgment or order. It also helps court staff manage the file correctly and avoids confusion about what the judgment actually covers.

If you're involved in a case and your attorney is submitting an order to the court, they are responsible for making sure this list is included. This is a technical, behind the scenes requirement, but it matters for keeping your case file accurate and easy to follow.
