Rule 1.11 Presentation of Orders to the Court

When a lawyer wants a judge to sign an order or judgment, they usually have to hand it directly to the judge. They cannot just drop it off with the court clerk or mail it in with a letter, unless the judge says that's okay. This rule applies to most orders and judgments in a case.

There is an exception for default orders and orders both sides have already agreed to. Those can be submitted in other ways, since there is no dispute for the judge to review in person.

Also, the lawyer who brings the order to the judge must sign their name on it. This helps the court keep track of who is asking for the order and makes sure someone takes responsibility for what is being presented to the judge.
