Rule 17.1 Scope

Here's what this rule covers when it comes to jury selection procedures in Mississippi courts.

If you're dealing with a felony case, or a misdemeanor case being tried in circuit or county court, the rules found in 17.2 and 17.3 will apply to your case. These rules cover things like how the jury gets picked and what happens during that process.

If your case is in municipal court or justice court instead, a different rule applies: Rule 17.10. This rule is written specifically for how those lower courts handle jury-related matters.

The rest of Rule 17, meaning any parts not covered by 17.2, 17.3, or 17.10, applies no matter what court you're in. So some jury procedures are the same everywhere, while a few specific ones depend on which type of court is handling your case.
