Rule 26 Contempt of Court

If someone disobeys a court order in a civil case, the judge can hold that person in contempt of court. This rule says that when this happens in justice court, the process must follow Rule 32 of the Mississippi Rules of Criminal Procedure, not a separate set of civil rules.

In practice, this means the same procedures used for criminal contempt cases will apply here too. This includes things like how the person is notified, what rights they have, and how the hearing is run. The goal is to keep the process consistent, so people facing contempt charges in justice court get the same protections as they would in other Mississippi courts.
