This rule explains what certain words mean when they are used in Rule 10, which deals with judicial commissions in Missouri. Knowing these definitions helps you understand the other rules in this section.
A "commission" means one of the nonpartisan judicial commissions set up under the Missouri Constitution. These commissions help pick judges in certain parts of the state. When the rule talks about a "member," that includes the person who chairs the commission, unless a specific rule says otherwise.
The term "members of the bar in good standing" covers both active and inactive lawyers, as long as they are in good standing with the Missouri Bar. Finally, "non-partisan court plan" refers to the specific part of the Missouri Constitution that created this system for selecting judges without political party involvement.
